Some people want to be able to load their favorite CD burning program, automatically, when they insert a blank CD into their CD-R/RW drive. Now they can.
Adding a CD burning program to the list of AutoPlay actions for a blank CD-R/RW Disk.
This activity involves editing of the Registry, so you should make a System Restore point, and know how to restore to it, if need be.
Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT
Go to: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers\EventHandlers\ HandleCDBurningOnArrival
Right click on HandleCDBurningOnArrival and select New, String Value and name the new value: MyBurner
Next go to: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers\Handlers
Right click on the Handlers sub-key and select New, Key and name the new key: MyBurner
Highlight the MyBurner key you just created.
For the following actions, right click in the right pane and select New, and then select the value type indicated:
String Value. Name it Action. Double click Action and enter a descriptive name like Nero CD Burning Program, or whatever you like.
Expandable String value. Name it DefaultIcon. Double click this entry and enter:

String Value. Name it InvokeProgID. Double click this entry and enter: MyBurnerOpen
String Value. Name it InvokeVerb. Double click and enter: open
String value. Name it Provider. Double click and enter the program's name, example: Nero CD Burner
Still in Regedit, go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. Right click on this branch and select New, Key and name the new key: MyBurnerOpen
Double click the Default value and enter the program name followed by (ISO). Example: Nero CD-ROM (ISO)
Right click on the MyBurnerOpen key and select New, Key and name the new key: DefaultIcon
Highlight the DefaultIcon key and enter the full path and file name of your CD burning program followed by ,1
Example: C:\Progra~1\ahead\nero\nero.exe,1
Right click on the MyBurnerOpen key and select New, Key and name the new key: shell
Right click on the shell key and select New, Key and name this key: open
Right click on the open key and select New, Key and name this key: command
Double click the Default value in the command key and enter the full path and enter the full path and file name of your CD burning program.
Example: C:\PROGRA~1\ahead\Nero\nero.exe
Now, when you right click on your burner, select Properties, AutoPlay and pull down the list and select Blank CD. You'll see your CD Burning program listed as an option, if you've performed these steps correctly. A sample Registry file is available here. Download the file and save it to your hard disk. Right click the file you just saved and select Edit. You can, if you wish, edit this file to match the above steps, then save it. Double click the file to import the changes to your Registry. Again, you should create a System Restore Point, and know how to restore to it, before proceeding.
